Fan Zi is a very old short-range style. It wasn't until the Duan family from Nortern Bulan of Gaoyang county that a modern Fan Zi Quan made an appearance. It is a quick rotation, from left and from the right, the top and from the bottom. It is said to be both hard and soft, with real movements and false movements -- divided on eight methods, each of them divided on eight hands giving 64 hands.During training it is necessary to train tiao (meaning lifting), and mo (brushing -- lifting during advancing and brushing during retreating. Tiao is flapping by both arms simultaneously forward on the vertical circle. Mo is movement by both arms simultaneously down to the abdomen on the vertical circle. Sense of eight methods is different movements on various circles.
The main fist set is lizhongan which means rotation similar to the rotation of the standing pillar. other sets include: cuibafan, jianzhongfan, ginsoufan, and lushoufan.
